USDMXN reaction to recent inflation prints

Interesting to see $USDMXN pull back today, currently around 17.13786. Mexican inflation numbers came in a bit hotter than expected earlier this week, which initially provided some support for the MXN. However, the $USDX still shows some underlying strength at 25.505. I'm watching this area closely; if we see continued dovish signals from Banxico while the Fed maintains its higher-for-longer rhetoric, that could put a floor under this recent MXN strength despite local inflation. It's a tricky cross to trade right now with diverging central bank narratives.

Watching DXY Post-CPI, Fed Rhetoric

Another CPI print, another round of parsing every word from the Fed. It seems the market is in a constant state of second-guessing the central bank's resolve, and frankly, I'm not seeing much clarity on when this data dependency truly ends. The recent print, while showing some moderation, still keeps the 'higher for longer' narrative somewhat intact, even if the edges are fraying a bit.

My primary concern remains the $USDX's resilience. Even with all the talk of impending rate cuts, it's holding up relatively well, currently at 25.505. This suggests underlying demand or, more likely, a lack of compelling alternatives. I'm keeping a close eye on $EURUSD for any sustained move through key resistance levels, but until we get a definitive shift in the Fed's stance or a more pronounced divergence in global growth, any strength in the majors against the dollar feels like a tactical play rather than a fundamental pivot. The risk-off appetite still seems to favor the dollar over perceived risk assets, despite the current positive sentiment. Not exactly jumping to short the dollar just yet.

USDMXN reaction to Banxico comments

Watching $USDMXN action today after the Banxico minutes. The tone on inflation still seems fairly hawkish, even with the recent rate hold. We've seen a pretty solid bounce off the low 17.086 today, now trading around 17.1285. Not seeing a strong conviction move yet, but the underlying hawkishness in the commentary could be supportive for the peso longer term.

My watchlist is still skewed towards looking for further strength in MXN on any dips, especially if oil remains stable. The range for today between 17.086 and 17.215 feels pretty tight, suggesting some consolidation before the next leg. Not looking to fade the current bounce just yet, more interested in how it settles by end of day.

CAD strength on recent data?

Watching $CADUSD today, that 0.53% bump up to 0.717 is interesting. Seems like there might be some underlying CAD strength building given the $USDX also pushing slightly higher. Wondering if anyone's seeing specific data points pushing this or if it's more general risk-on sentiment impacting CAD.

BOJ Hawkish Talk - Not Buying It For Now

Lot of chatter about the BOJ potentially shifting away from yield curve control, especially with the inflation print coming in. Frankly, I'm not convinced they have the room to maneuver significantly without rocking the boat too much. Staying light on JPY crosses for now and watching for genuine policy changes, not just trial balloons. Until then, any spikes in JPY are likely short-lived fade opportunities.

BOJ rhetoric on hold has Yen looking interesting

Been watching the JPY pairs lately, and frankly, the BOJ's continued insistence on maintaining ultra-loose policy is starting to feel a bit like whistling past a graveyard. Every other major central bank is either hiking or at least talking tough, yet Kuroda and co. are still preaching the gospel of negative rates.

Now, I'm not calling for an immediate reversal, but the divergence is becoming increasingly stark. If the Fed continues with its hawkish tone and even the ECB gets more assertive, the pressure on the JPY is only going to mount. I'm keeping a close eye on $USDJPY for any signs of a capitulation, but also looking at the crosses. The carry trade might be getting a bit crowded, but the underlying fundamentals for a weaker yen against most majors are still there, even if $USDX is a bit flat today around 25.48. I'm not seeing any immediate breakouts in $USDMXN at 17.1988 or $CADUSD at 0.71335 to divert my attention either.

NZDCAD and the RBNZ's less dovish tone

The recent RBNZ rhetoric, while not overtly hawkish, certainly seems to be walking back some of the more dovish expectations that had been priced in for the NZD. Watching $NZDCAD today, it's holding up around 0.82188, which is interesting given broader CAD strength narratives. If the market starts to seriously reconsider the RBNZ's rate path, even marginally, that could provide some structural support for the kiwi.

My watchlist is reflecting this; I'm looking for clearer signs of divergence in central bank sentiment between the RBNZ and BoC, particularly if Canadian data begins to soften at all. Still cautious on committing fully, but the setup is gaining some intrigue for a potential long NZDCAD if the technicals align with the shifting macro picture.

Fed comments post-CPI — what it means for USD strength?

ECB's Hawkish Hold – Implications for EUR crosses and beyond

So the ECB held firm today, no surprise there, but Lagarde's tone was decidedly hawkish, reinforcing the 'higher for longer' mantra we've been hearing. It's almost comical how quickly sentiment can pivot from 'imminent cuts' to 'hold the line' based on a few data points. I'm looking at $EURUSD and seeing some resilience, perhaps a short-term bottom forming around 1.07. More broadly, this strengthens the case for continued dollar strength against the more dovish central banks, but also puts pressure on carry trades where the funding currency is the euro. My watchlist is definitely tilting towards continued long $USDJPY and perhaps even considering a long $AUDUSD if commodity prices hold up, as the RBA still seems to have some wiggle room compared to the hawkish choir. Still, it's a tightrope walk – everyone's talking about a soft landing, but a lot can change between now and the next CPI print.

CAD Looking a Bit Soft on Oil

Oil’s dip today certainly isn't helping the $CADUSD, which has been trying to hold onto some gains. We're seeing it hovering around 0.7135, and while it's not a freefall, the energy story is going to be crucial for any real upside here. Keeping an eye on any major shifts in crude before looking for any directional plays on CAD, as it feels like the current price action is just jostling for position.

SEK looking interesting after Riksbank comments

Been watching the krona with a bit more focus this week. The recent Riksbank comments, particularly around their willingness to be patient but also to intervene if the currency weakens too much, have me thinking. We saw a dip today, with $USDSEK trading around 9.48001, down a bit. That's a good chunk off its highs, but the long-term trend has been pretty clear.

The rhetoric suggests they're uncomfortable with sustained depreciation, which makes sense given inflation concerns. For me, that means looking for opportunities on dips. I'm not seeing a massive trend reversal just yet, but the downside seems a bit more limited with the central bank subtly signaling a floor. Keeping an eye on any further comments and, of course, the next inflation print.

Thoughts on CAD strength and $NZDCAD after recent BOC talk

The latest hawkish rhetoric from the Bank of Canada is certainly making waves, even if they didn't hike rates this time around. It feels like they're trying to differentiate themselves from other central banks that might be nearing a pivot, suggesting a longer hold on higher rates.

I'm watching how this plays out, especially for pairs like $NZDCAD. The New Zealand dollar has its own set of challenges, and if CAD maintains this underlying strength, we could see $NZDCAD continue to test lower levels. Currently, it's at 0.82268, and a break below 0.8221 could signal more downside pressure in the near term. It's not a definite short just yet, but definitely one to keep an eye on as the divergence in central bank outlooks becomes clearer.

Watching CAD after that latest BOC talk – feels like a pivot is in the air

Just got through listening to the latest Bank of Canada comments and it feels like there's a definite shift in tone brewing. While no explicit 'we're cutting next week' messaging, the focus on disinflation and the acknowledgement of economic softening has my radar up. This sort of nuanced language usually precedes a more definitive move.

I'm particularly eyeing $CADUSD, currently at 0.71364. It’s been range-bound for a bit, but if the market truly starts pricing in BOC cuts sooner than previously expected, that could add some pressure. Also, $NZDCAD at 0.82315 is on the watchlist for potential divergences if NZD remains relatively robust. Not making any moves yet, just adjusting the mental framework for what could be coming down the pipe over the next few weeks. Curious to hear if anyone else caught similar vibes from the BOC.

Watching NZDCAD after that RBNZ statement

The RBNZ's surprisingly hawkish tone yesterday definitely gave the Kiwi a bit of a jolt, and it's interesting to see $NZDCAD pushing up towards the 0.8260 level today after that. I was leaning slightly bearish on CAD given recent oil price action, but the RBNZ commentary might give $NZD legs to test some higher resistance. Thinking about adjusting my watchlist to reflect a potential continuation here if we get a decent close above 0.8265.

USDCAD and the CAD strength conundrum

Watching $USDCAD this morning, holding around 1.40108. The recent strength in CAD, despite some softer data out of Canada, is making me rethink some short-term plays. It feels like the market is still pricing in a hawkish tilt from the BoC down the line, even if current numbers aren't screaming for it.

I'm keeping an eye on crude prices, obviously, but also how the Fed's next moves might influence that $USD leg. A more dovish Fed could certainly provide some downside for $USDCAD, but for now, it's a bit of a tricky spot to jump in with conviction. Might sit on the sidelines on this one for a bit.

BoC rate hold impact on CAD pairs

The Bank of Canada held rates steady again today, no real surprise there given recent inflation data. Still, the market's reaction feels a bit muted for $CADUSD hovering around 0.71401, only up a bit on the day. Makes me wonder if the 'higher for longer' narrative is finally getting priced in more broadly, or if there's still a decent chunk of dovishness lingering. I'm keeping a close eye on $USDCAD into next week; if oil can find some consistent support, we might see some interesting moves there.

SEK looking shaky after Riksbank comments

Seems the Riksbank is still hinting at potential further easing or at least not the hawkish stance some were expecting. Seeing $USDSEK push towards the higher end of today's range, currently around 9.52872, after bouncing off the 9.50 support earlier. It makes me wonder if the market is finally getting fed up with the dovish undertones, or if it's just noise. Keeping an eye on 9.53654; a clear break there could signal more weakness for the Krona.

Thoughts on the CAD strength after BoC comments and what it means for USD pairs

Watching the CAD today, it's been interesting to see how it's reacting to the recent comments from the Bank of Canada. They're still sounding pretty hawkish, or at least not rushing to cut, which seems to be giving the CAD some underlying strength. We're seeing $CADUSD trading around 0.71078, which is on the higher end of its daily range. It's not a massive move, but it's consistent with a narrative of continued support for the loonie.

This kind of divergence in central bank rhetoric is always a key driver for FX pairs. If the BoC stays firm while other central banks are signaling more dovish shifts, it could create some interesting opportunities. I'm keeping an eye on how this plays out, particularly against the USD. The $USDMXN pair, currently at 17.242, is also on my watchlist, though the drivers there are a bit more nuanced than just Canadian monetary policy. Just thinking out loud about how these larger macro themes influence what we're looking at on the charts.

NZD/CAD and BOC/RBNZ divergence on CPI

Saw the recent BOC rhetoric, definitely hinting at a more patient stance, especially with their internal projections for inflation cooling off. Compare that to the RBNZ, which seems a bit more hawkish, or at least less dovish, in their recent commentary. This divergence, even if subtle, is starting to create some interesting potential for the $NZDCAD pair. We've seen it drift lower today, currently at 0.82471. I'm keeping a close eye on the upcoming CPI prints from both countries; if the BOC gets further confirmation of easing price pressures and the RBNZ shows any stickiness, that could reinforce the current move. Not looking for any dramatic breaks yet, but the underlying narrative for a sustained move down seems to be building.

USD Weakness Post-CPI: Are We Seeing a Broader Shift or Just a Blip?

The latest CPI numbers definitely threw a wrench into some of the narratives I'd been following. Seeing the $USDSEK dip to 9.5052 and $USDMXN at 17.2447 today, both down around 0.4-0.5%, it's making me reconsider some of my longer-term assumptions about dollar strength, especially against some of these risk-on or higher-yield pairs. I know we've seen these kinds of reactions before, where a data point sparks an immediate move, but this feels a little different given the backdrop of continued Fed 'higher for longer' talk versus the market's increasing impatience.

I'm curious if others are seeing this as a more significant shift or just a momentary unwind. I've been watching $ETHUSD for a while too, and while it's up today at 1873.49, I'm trying to connect the dots between a weaker dollar environment and potential flows into assets like crypto. Is this USD weakness sustainable enough to really fuel that narrative, or are we still in a choppy range where one good data print can reverse sentiment quickly? Thinking about adjusting some of my longer-term watchlist ideas and maybe scouting for better entries if this continues.
