USDMXN: Peeking at 17.60 by week's end? Odds and ends

Watching $USDMXN closely here. We've been hovering around the 17.48 mark today, with a decent range from 17.43 to 17.52. The current bid at 17.48123 is interesting given the broader market sentiment.

My take is that we've got a decent shot at seeing 17.60 by the close of Friday's session. I'd put the probability around 60%. Why? We're seeing some subtle shifts in market risk appetite globally, and while the day's movement on $USDMXN hasn't been dramatic (+0.02%), the undercurrents suggest a slight move back into USD strength against some EM currencies. The lack of a strong catalyst today means traders might be positioning for weekend news or simply unwinding some shorter-term positions that have kept it contained. A slight pick-up in oil prices could offer some counter-pressure, but it feels like the USD bid is gaining some quiet momentum. It's not a screaming signal, but a gentle nudge towards that higher level if the current range breaks upwards convincingly in the next 24-48 hours. Not advice, just my odds.

Kalshi: $USDMXN below 17.40 by month-end?

Been watching $USDMXN pretty closely. Currently at 17.4791, and it's been range-bound for a bit. We've seen some support build around 17.43, but the overall trend has been towards a stronger MXN for a while now. Inflation data out of Mexico has been cooling, and the Fed's stance on rates, while still hawkish, seems to be reaching a plateau which generally supports emerging market currencies.

I'd put the odds of $USDMXN hitting below 17.40 by month-end at around 65%. The daily range today shows a high of 17.521 and a low of 17.432, suggesting the pressure is there. If we get any further hawkish pauses from Banxico or a slight risk-on sentiment in global markets, that push could be enough. Just a forecast, not advice, but feels like there's more downside than upside pressure on this pair in the near term.

Watching USDMXN after Banxico's hold, broader EM view

Banxico holding rates steady at 11.25% was largely expected, but the accompanying statement definitely had a cautious tone. They flagged continued inflation pressures despite the recent moderation, and emphasized the need for a sustained disinflationary process. This isn't exactly dovish, but it's not aggressively hawkish either. It feels like they're trying to maintain optionality without committing too much, especially with the Fed's next moves still a bit opaque.

From a trading perspective, this might keep $USDMXN somewhat range-bound for a bit. We're seeing it hover around 17.4791 right now, bouncing between yesterday's 17.432 low and 17.521 high. I'm keeping it on my watchlist, particularly for any significant breakout above 17.60 or a sustained dip below 17.30. The broader EM picture is still very much tied to dollar strength and global risk sentiment. If the dollar catches another bid, MXN could certainly weaken, but for now, the internal dynamics seem to be holding it relatively stable against the greenback. It's a delicate balance.
