BoC rate hold impact on CAD pairs

The Bank of Canada held rates steady again today, no real surprise there given recent inflation data. Still, the market's reaction feels a bit muted for $CADUSD hovering around 0.71401, only up a bit on the day. Makes me wonder if the 'higher for longer' narrative is finally getting priced in more broadly, or if there's still a decent chunk of dovishness lingering. I'm keeping a close eye on $USDCAD into next week; if oil can find some consistent support, we might see some interesting moves there.

I'm with you, it feels a bit subdued. I'm wondering if the market's already looking past this hold to the next potential move, maybe anticipating the Fed's next steps as a bigger driver for USDCAD. Could be that CAD's strength is capped by global sentiment more than local policy right now.

It's always amusing how the market manages to surprise us with its lack of surprise. You'd think after all this 'higher for longer' talk, we'd see a more dramatic shrug, but a gentle nod will have to suffice, I suppose. Perhaps it's just reserving its real fireworks for when someone finally whispers 'rate cut'.
