Riksbank hiking again and SEK reaction

Saw the Riksbank hiked 25bps as expected. Funny, the immediate reaction on $USDSEK barely gave a damn, still hovering around 9.51. Clearly, the market had this priced in ages ago, or the move was too small to budge the broader USD strength. I'm keeping a close eye on any follow-through downside on $USDSEK, but honestly, it feels like this pair needs a bigger macro catalyst than a rote hike to break out of its recent range. My bias remains slightly bearish on $USDSEK but I'm waiting for a convincing break.

Watching CAD after yesterday's retail sales print

The Canadian retail sales numbers yesterday came in softer than expected, which definitely adds another layer to the BoC's upcoming decisions. Was anticipating some of that, but the reaction across the board for CAD was interesting. I'm keeping a close eye on $NZDCAD, currently at 0.82304, wondering if this weakness has legs, especially if we see any further shifts in commodity prices. The day range 0.82165–0.82454 suggests it's trying to hold ground, but the longer-term outlook might be shifting.

Also curious if anyone is re-evaluating their short CAD plays, or if this is just a minor blip before a potential recovery. I've got $USDMXN at 17.3391 on my watchlist too, mainly as a proxy for broader USD strength, and how that might impact other CAD crosses.

Watching USD strength after Fed speak, how does it affect EM?

Been following the commentary from various Fed members lately, and it feels like the hawkish tone is really starting to solidify again, even with the recent data quirks. I'm seeing $USDMXN tick up to 17.33441 today, and it got me thinking about broader EM currency plays. With the dollar seemingly regaining some footing, is the room for currencies like the Mexican Peso to appreciate shrinking, or is this just short-term noise before a potential reversal? Also curious if anyone's looking at how this might play into carry trades, given rate differentials are still attractive in some places, even with a stronger USD.

USDCAD and the latest oil inventory build

Watching $USDCAD closely today, especially with the latest API data showing a larger-than-expected crude inventory build. We're currently sitting around 1.40039, holding just above yesterday's low. It's interesting how little reaction we've seen from that inventory news so far, considering the usual inverse correlation.

I'm curious if this is just a lagged reaction waiting for official EIA data, or if other factors are simply outweighing the oil narrative right now. Will be keeping an eye on whether we retest the 1.3992 support or if there's an upside correction if the CAD strength fades.

Watching CAD after yesterday's jobs report

That surprise Canadian jobs print yesterday really put a wrench in the Bank of Canada's dovish pivot narrative, didn't it? It's interesting to see $USDCAD trading around 1.40004 today, seemingly trying to find its footing after the initial reaction. I'm keeping a close eye on $NZDCAD as well, trading up at 0.8232; it seems to be benefiting from the broader CAD weakness, which makes me think this might be more than a one-day blip. This makes me wonder if we're going to see a more sustained shift in CAD pairs if the BOC holds off on rate cuts longer than expected. Definitely something to monitor for a potential longer-term play.

US CPI coming in softer than expected - Implications for DXY and pairs

So, the latest CPI print just landed, and it's noticeably softer across the board than what the consensus was bracing for. Core CPI, in particular, looks like it's decelerating a bit faster. This is, of course, a huge data point for the Fed's stance moving forward.

My initial read is that this definitely opens the door wider for a potential rate cut sooner rather than later, possibly even by June if subsequent data continues this trend. We saw an immediate reaction in $DXY, which has shed some pips fairly quickly, while risk assets got a bit of a bid. I'm keeping a very close eye on $EURUSD; if this theme of moderating inflation persists, the hawkish divergence between the ECB and Fed might narrow faster than anticipated, providing some upside for the pair beyond its current range. Also watching $AUDUSD as a proxy for broader risk appetite. The market's pricing for Fed cuts is likely to adjust quite a bit over the next few hours and days, and that's where the opportunities will emerge.

USD/MXN holding steady after that CPI print

Watching the $USDMXN action today after the latest CPI print out of Mexico. It's interesting how it's holding around 17.3982, even after that initial wobble to 17.378. Seems like the market is still processing the full implications, but for now, it's not the dramatic move some were expecting. I'm keeping it on the watchlist for any signs of a break either way, especially if the 17.48 level gets tested again.

CADJPY drop after BoC hints at pause – what's next?

Interesting to see $CADJPY really give back ground today, currently trading around 113.637. The BoC's recent tone, hinting at a potential pause in rate hikes, seems to have caught some off guard after the hawkishness we've seen from them for a while. The move down from its 116.45 high today suggests market participants are pricing in a divergence in monetary policy expectations versus the BoJ, which remains steadfastly dovish. I'm watching to see if this is just a quick correction or if we're establishing a new range, especially with oil's recent choppiness not giving CAD the usual clear direction. Keeping an eye on 112.707 as a potential support level, but if the BoC narrative continues to soften, we could see further unwinding of carry trades. $USDTHB seems relatively stable in comparison, though any broader USD strength or weakness could spill over.

USDCAD holding up despite oil dip, keeping an eye on BOC next week

Watching $USDCAD trading at 1.4052 today. Oil’s taken a bit of a tumble in the last 24 hours, but the pair hasn't really reacted as strongly as one might expect. It’s holding pretty firm, even bumping up to 1.40539 earlier. Seems like the market might be more focused on other drivers, maybe anticipating some hawkish undertones from the Bank of Canada next week.

I'm still keeping a close watch on any further weakness in crude, but for now, the CAD isn't showing the sensitivity I'd usually expect. This makes me think about potential divergence in central bank rhetoric shaping up. Definitely curious to see how the BOC statement plays out; it could be the catalyst to push $USDCAD beyond this range, or reinforce it. My watchlist is poised for a reaction.

BoC rate hold and the USDCAD dance

So the BoC held rates steady, which was largely priced in, but their accompanying statement certainly had a slightly more hawkish undertone than some were expecting. Seems they're still not entirely convinced the inflation beast is tamed, despite the data showing some cooling. You can see $USDCAD reacting, currently at 1.40413, holding near the day's high end. The interesting bit for me now isn't so much the immediate pop, but how much room this gives them to pivot if economic data continues to soften in the coming months. It puts a different complexion on any future USD strength against the Loonie – suddenly the Canadian side isn't quite as clear-cut Dovish as it seemed a few weeks ago. My watchlist is now heavily focused on upcoming Canadian inflation prints and employment figures; if those surprise to the upside, we might see 1.41+ become a real possibility before any significant retracement. Conversely, a sharp downturn in Canadian data could see this move quickly fade. Always a fun balancing act, isn't it?

Watching CAD after the NZD strength, and USD weakness

Interesting to see $NZDCAD pushing up to 0.8175 on the day. The RBNZ's hawkish stance is definitely giving the Kiwi some legs, but with $USDMXN at 17.4135 and $USDZAR down to 16.60526, it feels like we're seeing some broader USD weakness that might be magnifying the CAD side of that pair. I'm trying to figure out if this is just short-term rate differential noise or if there's a bigger risk-on sentiment shift at play that could see CAD struggling more broadly. What's the read on the CAD side here? Is it mostly USD-driven or is there domestic weakness I'm missing?

Riksbank talk on hold — USDSEK in focus

Was just catching up on the latest from Sweden, and it sounds like the Riksbank is still pretty firm on their current stance, despite some of the whispers about potential easing later in the year. Reading between the lines, it feels like they’re waiting for more definitive data before making any big moves, which isn't exactly a shocker given the global economic picture right now.

This keeps $USDSEK interesting for me. We're sitting around 9.73312, after trading as high as 9.73849 today. If the Fed continues to lean hawkish and the Riksbank stays pat, that could provide some sustained upward pressure here. I'm not looking for a dramatic breakout immediately, but it's definitely on my watchlist for continued strength. Thinking about a move toward 9.80 if we get any further hawkish signals from the US or if inflation data in Sweden remains stubborn.

USDMXN Action: Watching for Rate Differential Impact

That $USDMXN push towards 17.48002 today has my attention. With Banxico's recent hawkish tone and the Fed still signaling cuts eventually, that rate differential should theoretically put downward pressure on the pair. But we're seeing some resilience.

It feels like there's a disconnect, or perhaps the market is already pricing in a slower path for Banxico. I'm keeping it on my watchlist for a potential turn if the carry trade starts unwinding, or if the next US CPI number gives the Fed more room to ease sooner than expected. Otherwise, this consolidation around current levels like 17.47921 could just be the new normal for a bit.

Watching the CAD for BoC signals

Just saw the $USDCAD jump to 1.41104 today after that surprisingly strong inflation print out of Canada. I'm wondering if the Bank of Canada might be forced to pivot sooner than expected, or at least slow their rate cut narrative given the data. Thinking about how this impacts my watchlist, specifically any CAD crosses I was looking at for potential weakness, as this could suggest a floor.

Sweden CPI and Riksbank's next move on SEK

Watching the $USDSEK pair closely after yesterday's CPI numbers out of Sweden. While inflation came in a bit softer than anticipated, the Riksbank's hawkish tone at their last meeting still seems to be echoing. We're currently seeing $USDSEK at 9.72125, holding around yesterday's range after initially dipping.

The question now is how much more runway the Riksbank has to tighten, especially if core inflation continues to cool slightly. My watchlist is definitely centered on the upcoming Riksbank minutes and any further commentary; seems like a key pivot point for whether we see a sustained push back below 9.70 or if the dollar finds support here.

Thoughts on Thai Baht Strength Post-BoT Comments

Watching $USDTHB drop to around 33.52 today is definitely interesting, especially after those comments from the Bank of Thailand. Seems like the market is reading a more hawkish tone, or at least a less dovish one, than previously expected, leading to some decent strength for the Baht. Curious if others are seeing this as a sustained shift or more of a short-term reaction to the rhetoric.

I've been out of the THB trade for a bit, but this move has me considering whether to put it back on the watchlist. The 33.5 support level held pretty firm for a while, and breaking below it on what seems like genuine policy signaling could point to further downside for the pair. Keeping an eye on how it consolidates here, particularly if we get any follow-through in the coming days.

RBNZ's less hawkish tone and its ripple effect on CAD crosses

Caught the RBNZ statement earlier today, and it was definitely less hawkish than some were positioning for. The market was pricing in a higher probability of another hike, but the dovish hold has clearly taken some steam out of the NZD. We saw $NZDCAD immediately react, pushing up to 0.81793 from its earlier dip. The high today around 0.81846 shows the initial pop.

Now, the question is how much follow-through this has. The BOC's stance has been pretty consistent on inflation, and with oil prices still somewhat elevated, I'm thinking the CAD might find some underlying support. If this RBNZ sentiment really takes hold, we could see the $NZDCAD continue to retrace. Keeping an eye on the 0.8200 level; a clear rejection there would strengthen the case for a move lower. On the flip side, if we break through and hold, it might signal that the market is already looking past this particular central bank read.

Watching $USDSEK after latest Riksbank comments

The Riksbank's latest comments on their inflation outlook have me revisiting my $USDSEK watchlist. Despite the recent strengthening of the SEK, with $USDSEK sitting around 9.7117, it feels like the market might still be underpricing the risk of them holding rates higher for longer, especially if global disinflation stalls. I'm keeping an eye on whether we see any significant re-pricing if upcoming CPI prints come in hotter than expected, as that could provide a stronger catalyst for a move.

CADJPY testing tops after BOC hold

The BoC holding steady on rates was widely expected, but the accompanying statement didn't offer any significant dovish tilt. With oil prices firming up again, it's not surprising to see $CADJPY testing 116.25, pushing towards its recent highs.

I'm watching for a potential retest of 116.50. If we get a clear break above that, it could signal further upside, especially if the BoJ remains resolutely dovish in contrast. Conversely, a rejection here could see it cool off back towards 116.00.

USDZAR's Muted Reaction to SA Rates

Interesting to see $USDZAR just hovering around 16.8248 today despite the SARB holding rates. I was expecting a bit more volatility, especially given the current global backdrop. It just shows how much of the rate decision was likely priced in, or perhaps other factors are dominating. I'm keeping a close eye on any further commentary from the SARB or any shifts in broader EM sentiment. Could still see some movement as the week progresses, but for now, it's a calm sea.

Watching CAD after the recent CPI print

The latest Canadian CPI numbers came in a touch hotter than anticipated, and while not a dramatic shift, it does complicate the BoC's path. We've seen a bit of strength come back into CAD crosses today, with $NZDCAD, for instance, up to 0.81659. I'm keeping an eye on how this translates into the employment data next week; if we see similar resilience there, it could really solidify the hawkish lean, putting further pressure on pairs like $USDCAD and even extending the recent move on $NZDCAD. Definitely watching for follow-through before making any adjustments to my longer-term views.

USDMXN Action - Peso resilience holding?

Watching $USDMXN today. It's hovering around 17.48 after that slight bump earlier, trading within its typical 17.43-17.52 range for the day. Given the broader dollar strength we've seen on rate hike speculation, I'm genuinely surprised at how the peso is holding its own.

Is this just a short-term pause before the dollar really stretches its legs, or are we seeing some underlying support for MXN that I might be overlooking? Curious about others' read on this given how much chatter there's been about potential further weakening.
