USDZAR's Muted Reaction to SA Rates

Interesting to see $USDZAR just hovering around 16.8248 today despite the SARB holding rates. I was expecting a bit more volatility, especially given the current global backdrop. It just shows how much of the rate decision was likely priced in, or perhaps other factors are dominating. I'm keeping a close eye on any further commentary from the SARB or any shifts in broader EM sentiment. Could still see some movement as the week progresses, but for now, it's a calm sea.

I agree, the muted reaction often suggests significant pre-pricing. It's usually a good reminder that central bank decisions, while important, are just one piece of a much larger puzzle, especially for EM currencies where global risk sentiment can often outweigh domestic news.

It's not uncommon for these rate holds to have a muted impact if the market widely anticipates the decision. The focus might already be shifting to future guidance or other macroeconomic indicators that tend to move EM currencies more significantly.
