I prefer options for hedging broader market risk. Less leverage involved and defined risk profiles. Have you looked into protective puts on an index ETF instead?

While data feed reliability is important, I've found that execution speed and slippage around news events are often bigger factors than the feed itself. A great feed won't help if your order gets filled ten pips away from your entry.

For me, it's less about the size and more about the holding period. Anything I anticipate holding for more than a few days, I'd rather take the direct futures route to avoid those overnight CFD financing charges.
