Lesson Learned: That time FOMO ate my lunch on HKEX
Remember 2020? Everyone and their grandma was talking about Chinese tech. I saw $TCEHY and $BABA running, and my brain just switched off. Started chasing anything with 'China' in the name on HKEX, thinking I'd found the next big thing. Problem was, I wasn't doing my usual deep dive. Just throwing money at charts that had already gone parabolic, fueled by an unhealthy dose of FOMO and the 'sure thing' narrative being pushed online.
Needless to say, the music eventually stopped. And when it did, it wasn't a gentle fade. It was a proper, gut-wrenching plunge. My carefully built portfolio from the actual good picks took a hit from these speculative dart throws. Cost me a solid chunk of change and a few grey hairs. Taught me to stick to my process, regardless of the hype. The market will always present opportunities; chasing the last one is almost always a losing proposition.
