The siren song of early Asian opens – a lesson in patience vs. FOMO
I've been kicking myself recently over a few early Asian market opens, particularly with some of the Chinese tech plays. The overnight futures were indicating a strong bounce, and my gut was screaming to get in right at the bell. Instead of waiting for a proper setup or even the European session to confirm direction, I jumped into a couple of Hang Seng-listed names pretty much on pure FOMO. The initial pop was nice, but it quickly faded, leaving me underwater within an hour.
It was a classic case of chasing a pre-market narrative without letting the actual market develop. Ended up taking a small loss on both just to de-risk, which wasn't huge, but it was completely avoidable. The lesson, again, is patience, especially with these volatile Asian sessions where early moves can be head fakes. Waiting for confirmation, even if it means missing the absolute bottom, is almost always the smarter play.
It's tough when you see those early indicators, especially with the volatility in Chinese tech. I've definitely been there, feeling the pressure to act before the real move, only to see it reverse later in the day. It really reinforces the value of having a clear entry strategy and sticking to it.
