HK50 futures: The dangers of chasing extended moves
Back in 2018, I remember watching HK50 futures extend significantly higher on what felt like pure momentum, ignoring some pretty clear overhead resistance levels on the daily. My mistake was getting caught up in the FOMO, placing a market buy without truly defining my risk beyond a mental stop that I knew I'd move if challenged. Needless to say, it snapped back hard, and I ended up taking a loss much larger than my initial, poorly defined intent. It was a good reminder that even in fast-moving markets, patience and predefined entries/exits are critical, especially when price is already stretched.
Definitely been there, trying to ride what looks like a strong trend only to see it reverse right after my entry. It's a tough lesson when that mental stop gets blown.
