Lesson Learned: The Cost of Chasing Momentum
I had a rough patch recently, chasing some of these high-momentum tech stocks that were just running away. You know the ones – up 20% in a week, everyone talking about them. I kept telling myself, "just a small position, don't miss out." My entry points were terrible, always near the top of the daily range. Then, when they inevitably pulled back, I'd move my stops lower, convinced it was just a temporary dip. Ended up taking a few 10%+ losses in names I really shouldn't have been in, and certainly not at those prices. It was pure FOMO and a disregard for my own entry rules. The lesson, again, is patience and sticking to setups, not just jumping into whatever's hot.
