New here - My experience with chasing price in crypto

Evening everyone, just joined the forum. Been trading for about eight years now, mostly FX and commodities, but dipped my toes into crypto over the past few years with varying degrees of success, or lack thereof.

One of the hardest lessons I learned early on in crypto, specifically during the last major bull run, was the futility of chasing price. I had a few decent initial entries on coins like $ADA and $SOL, but sold them prematurely on a small profit, convinced they couldn't go much higher. Then, as they kept grinding up, the FOMO would set in hard. I'd then re-enter at significantly higher levels, often after a parabolic move, only to watch them retrace sharply, leaving me holding the bag. It wasn't just about losing capital; it was the opportunity cost and the mental drain of constantly being whipsawed. I was essentially buying someone else's exit liquidity. I think the key takeaway for me was realizing that if I missed the initial move, it's often better to just wait for the next setup, or accept that it wasn't my trade, rather than trying to force an entry into an already extended move. Much easier said than done, of course, especially with the velocity of crypto markets.
