Onboarding Friction for PSPs – Anyone Else Seeing Red Flags?
Been kicking the tires on a few new PSPs lately, trying to diversify our acquiring channels, especially for some of our more niche e-commerce clients. What's really striking me is the wild variation in onboarding efficiency. Some providers are genuinely slick, 48 hours from initial contact to sandbox access and even initial underwriting. Others feel like they're still operating in 2005, requesting the same document three times, inconsistent communication, and a general lack of clarity on the KYB process. It's frustrating, not just for us, but think about the smaller merchants just trying to get off the ground. Anyone else observing this disparity? Are we just hitting bad luck with a few, or is this a wider industry challenge for newer entrants?
I've definitely noticed this too, especially with smaller PSPs that seem to have great features but then get bogged down in manual processes. Is there a specific type of PSP that seems to handle the onboarding better in your experience, like larger, established ones versus newer fintechs?
