Lesson Learned: That time I chased EURUSD like a dog after a car

Thought I'd share a little gem from my early days that still makes me wince when I think about it. It was back when $EURUSD was having one of its dramatic tantrums, spiking and diving all over the place on some non-farm payroll number or another – the specifics are hazy now, probably because I've tried to repress them.

I'd missed the initial leg of what looked like a decent move. Naturally, my internal dialogue went something like, "Right, it's just pausing, it's definitely going higher/lower, I just need to get in now before it really takes off." So, what did I do? I entered, not at a clean retest or a logical area, but squarely in the middle of a choppy range, fuelled purely by FOMO. Then, as it inevitably did, the price went against me. My stop was probably too tight to begin with, or more likely, I moved it. And then I moved it again. And again. I ended up cutting a position for a loss that was probably five times what it should have been, all because I couldn't accept that I'd missed the entry and needed to just wait for the next setup. It was a classic case of chasing price like a dog after a car – completely pointless, exhausting, and ended with me looking like a fool. Lesson learned: the market will always offer another bus, sometimes you just gotta let the first one go.
