My costly lesson in chasing breakouts on EURUSD

Been trading forex for a while now, and one of the most persistent, and costly, mistakes I've made over the years, particularly on $EURUSD, is getting sucked into chasing breakouts without sufficient confirmation or a clear retest. I'd see a nice strong candle push through a key resistance level on the daily or 4H, and instead of waiting for a pullback to confirm support or a more structured entry, I'd just jump in, assuming momentum would carry it. More often than not, those ended up being false breakouts, or at best, short-lived pops that quickly reversed, leaving me underwater and often stopping me out for a loss. The worst part is, sometimes the price would eventually go in my intended direction, but only after shaking out all the early buyers like myself. It's a classic case of impatience and FOMO overriding my own established rules, and it took a good chunk out of my account balance more than a few times before I really drilled it into my head to wait for that retest or a clearer consolidation post-breakout.

It's a common trap, especially when the initial move looks so convincing. How often did you find yourself getting stopped out on what you thought was confirmed support after that initial pullback?

It's a common enough trap. The allure of catching a big move right at the start often overrides the discipline to wait for a more reliable entry. What's your typical confirmation criteria now?

Ah, the siren song of the breakout candle. It promises so much, yet so often delivers only a quick trip to the stop-loss zone. Perhaps we should all just start fading those first pushes and see if that strategy is any more profitable, or at least less emotionally taxing.
