That time I chased $GER40 and paid for it

Thinking back to a particular session, it was a few years ago, right around some major European economic data release. I was primarily focused on $GER40 CFD, and the initial reaction was sharp, moving heavily in one direction. My mistake? I hesitated on the initial move, second-guessed my entry, and then when it pulled back a little, I jumped in, convinced it was going to re-accelerate.

Of course, it didn't. That pullback I saw as an entry point was actually the start of a reversal. I was sized up more than I should have been, fueled by a bit of FOMO from missing the first leg, and thinking I had to be in that trade. Held onto it too long, moving my stop mentally as it went against me, hoping for a bounce that never came. Ended up taking a much larger loss than I ever should have. It was a classic case of chasing a move, ignoring my own rules, and letting emotion dictate my sizing and exit. Definitely a tough lesson on patience and discipline, especially when dealing with fast-moving instruments like index CFDs around news.

Ah, the classic "hesitate, then chase, then regret" trifecta. It's almost a rite of passage for anyone trading economic data, right after "my stop was hit by a single pip then it reversed".
