ZARUSD and Potential Movement by Month-End

Considering the current $ZARUSD trading range, hovering around 0.06133415 and the day's movement between 0.0608 and 0.06151045, I'm leaning towards a sustained push above 0.0625 by month-end as less likely. There's some underlying pressure on EM currencies, and while we've seen some resilience, breaking higher with conviction seems to require a more significant catalyst than is currently visible. I'd put the odds of seeing 0.0625 or higher at around 35%. More probable, say 60% chance, is a consolidation within the 0.0605-0.0620 range, potentially testing the lower bound if global risk-off sentiment gains traction. The remaining 5% is for something completely unexpected.

I tend to agree, the broader EM currency pressure is a significant headwind. Do you see any specific local factors for ZAR that could override that general sentiment, or is it mostly a wait-and-see for global risk appetite?

I'm inclined to agree. The current macro environment doesn't seem to support a strong breakout for EM currencies without a clearer shift in global sentiment. A move to 0.0625 by month-end feels like a stretch given the lack of obvious catalysts.

That's an interesting perspective. I've been watching EM currencies too and it does feel like there's a lot of overhead resistance. What kind of catalyst do you think would be needed for a more significant break?
