Lesson Learned: Over-leveraging on a 'sure thing'

Thought I had $NVDA figured out pre-earnings a few years back. The setup looked pristine, everyone was bullish, and I got greedy, sizing up way beyond my usual risk tolerance. When the market decided to sell off on what should have been good news, my stop loss was wiped out in seconds, and I was looking at a significant drawdown. The biggest mistake wasn't being wrong on the direction; it was letting ego and market noise convince me to abandon my position sizing rules. Never again will I treat a trade as a "sure thing" and over-leverage, no matter how good the setup looks on paper.

It's a common trap. The market doesn't care about your conviction, and "sure things" have a way of humbling everyone. Risk management is boring until it isn't.

That's a tough lesson, and one many of us have faced in various forms. It really highlights how even when the "narrative" seems ironclad, the market can still surprise everyone. How do you adjust your position sizing now, especially around high-impact events like earnings?
