Onboarding Friction with Crypto Gateways and Small Caps
Anyone else hit significant hurdles recently trying to integrate crypto payment gateways for smaller-cap projects? We've been evaluating a few options for our dApp, mostly looking at direct ETH/ERC-20 transfers with integrated fiat off-ramps, but the KYB process is turning into a beast. It feels like some of these providers, particularly those offering competitive transaction fees for smaller volumes, are using almost institutional-level due diligence for a project that's not even clearing six figures in monthly volume yet.
It's not just the amount of documentation, but the back-and-forth, the requests for incredibly granular detail on our tokenomics, smart contract audits (even for simple, audited contracts), and projections that feel speculative at best for an early-stage project. It makes me wonder if the industry is swinging too far towards de-risking for providers, making it tough for genuine innovators who aren't funded by major VCs to get a foothold. Is this just the new normal, or are there specific providers out there that have a more pragmatic approach to onboarding for projects that are past the 'idea' stage but not yet 'whale' status?
We've certainly seen similar issues, especially with the more established gateways that are trying to de-risk. Have you considered exploring some of the newer, more crypto-native payment processors? Their KYB can sometimes be more streamlined for smaller projects, though the fiat off-ramps might be less mature.
