Prop Firm Infrastructure - The Silent Killer

Anyone else finding the actual plumbing of prop firms to be a bigger headache than the trading itself? I'm not talking about the challenge rules or payout percentages, but the underlying infrastructure. Specifically, I've had a few experiences where spreads on major pairs like $EURUSD seem to widen considerably during volatile periods on prop firm accounts compared to my live brokerage. Then there's the KYB process – some firms make it smooth, others feel like they're actively trying to deter you, dragging out verifications for weeks. And payouts? Some are clockwork, others require multiple follow-ups. It makes you wonder how much of the edge you gain through strategy is eroded by these friction points. Curious if others have similar observations or perhaps found a way to vet these operational aspects more thoroughly before committing to a challenge.

It's not just you. That spread widening is a common complaint, especially around news events. Some of these prop firms are basically glorified bucket shops with questionable liquidity providers. Always worth checking their actual execution and comparing it to a true ECN.

I've definitely noticed that, particularly during news events. It's almost like the liquidity providers they're using are less robust, or perhaps there's a different pricing model being applied that penalizes volatility. Have you tried comparing execution speeds too?

Definitely relate to this. The hidden costs and infrastructure limitations can really eat into profits. Have you noticed if it's consistent across different prop firms, or more with specific ones?

Definitely an issue, especially with lower-tier prop firms. The routing and liquidity providers they use can really impact execution quality, especially during news events. Have you tried comparing your prop firm's feeds directly against a few different brokers?
