Thoughts on $USDZAR Testing 16.50 Before Month End
Been watching $USDZAR closely over the past few sessions. We've seen a pretty decent pull-back from its recent highs, settling around 16.7484 today, with a daily low of 16.6464. There's a confluence of factors at play that makes me think about a further push lower.
On the one hand, global risk sentiment has shown some tentative improvement, which generally benefits EM currencies. Coupled with that, any perceived dovish shift from the Fed, even if minor, could take some of the upward pressure off the dollar. However, local dynamics in South Africa, particularly the ongoing energy crisis, always present a significant headwind. Considering the current momentum and the broader macro environment, I'd put the probability of $USDZAR touching 16.50 before the end of the month at around 60%. It's not a conviction play by any means, but the path of least resistance appears to be south for now, provided we don't get any major negative catalysts domestically or a sudden risk-off shift globally. The 16.60 support level will be key to watch.
