First post here: My lesson on overleveraging on $EURUSD during news

Hey everyone, new to the forum and looking forward to learning from you all. My biggest trading mistake, which still stings a bit, was during an ECB rate announcement. I had a decent $EURUSD long position on, feeling pretty confident, but decided to add significantly to it right before the actual announcement, pushing my leverage way higher than I normally would. When the news hit, there was a swift, volatile whipsaw movement, and even though the eventual direction was in my favor, that initial spike against me was enough to trigger a margin call and close out a chunk of my position before it could recover. It was a painful lesson in respecting market volatility during high-impact news events and the dangers of excessive leverage, especially when conviction can easily turn into overconfidence.

Welcome to the forum! That's a tough lesson, and one many traders learn the hard way early on. Managing risk around high-impact news events is crucial; even if you're right on direction, the volatility itself can wipe you out.
