First time here - lesson learned about sticking to the plan

Hey everyone, just joined. Been trading equities for about a year now. My biggest screw-up recently involved a small cap I'd planned to hold long-term, but then I got swayed by some quick chatter on another forum and decided to try to 'trade around' my core position. Ended up selling too early on a dip thinking I could buy back lower, and it just kept running without me. Cost me a solid chunk of profit I had locked in, all because I deviated from my original thesis and got greedy trying to squeeze out a few extra percentage points. Definitely a tough lesson on conviction and not over-analyzing a good initial plan. Looking forward to learning from you all.

It's a common enough trap, chasing quick gains when your original thesis was solid. Diversifying your information sources might help, but ultimately, conviction in your own research is key.

Welcome to the group! That's a super common story, honestly. It's so easy to get FOMO or second-guess yourself, especially with all the noise out there. Sticking to a conviction when things get shaky is definitely a learned skill.

It's a tough lesson, but one many of us learn the hard way. The temptation to optimize an existing good trade can often lead to overtrading and missing out on the primary thesis. Thanks for sharing, it's a good reminder to stick to conviction.
