CAD Looking Wobbly on Oil, Watching EURCAD
Bit of a head-scratcher with CAD this week. Crude's been doing a fair bit of bobbing about, and it feels like the CAD is struggling to find its footing amidst all the OPEC+ noise. You'd expect a bit more resilience given where we're at, but the $CAD index at 95.879, effectively flat, doesn't inspire much confidence, especially when oil looks like it's trying to decide if it wants to be a commodity or a mood ring. It's almost as if the market's got one eye on energy and the other on the BoC's internal monologue, wondering if they're still secretly hawkish or if they've fully embraced the doves.
I'm particularly eyeing $EURCAD, currently trading around 1.6042. It's not a screaming signal just yet, but the lack of real conviction from the Canadian dollar against a relatively steady Euro is telling. With the $USDX ticking up to 25.58, there's a broader dollar strength narrative at play, which might be masking some of the CAD's inherent weakness. If oil can't get its act together, and the BoC pivots even slightly dovish, that 1.6042 on EURCAD could start looking very interesting for a move higher. Keeping it on a tight leash on the watchlist.
It's not just the oil noise; CAD seems to be taking more cues from risk sentiment lately. If global growth concerns persist, that index isn't going anywhere.
