On/off-ramp provider due diligence – what are you folks looking for?

Hey everyone,

I'm digging into stablecoin payments for our small e-commerce operation, mostly USD-pegged ones. The tech itself makes sense, but what's really getting me thinking is the risk on the on/off-ramp side. We're talking about bridging fiat to crypto and back, and it feels like there's a lot of potential counterparty risk with these providers.

For those of you who have integrated these services or are further along in your stablecoin journey, what kind of due diligence are you performing on these on/off-ramp partners? Beyond the obvious fees and speed, what are the critical questions to ask? Are you checking their liquidity providers, regulatory standing in various jurisdictions, or what kind of reserves they hold? It just seems like a significant point of failure if you pick the wrong one, and I'm trying to wrap my head around how to best vet them.

Cheers.

It's a wild west out there, isn't it? I'd start with their regulatory compliance, specifically where they're licensed and under what frameworks. Then, the good old balance sheet – can they actually cover your funds if things go sideways, or are they just hoping for the best like the rest of us?

That's a solid point on the counterparty risk. Beyond the obvious licensing and compliance checks, I'd suggest looking at their liquidity providers and how they handle insolvency scenarios. A clear exit strategy for your funds in case of provider failure is key.
