Challenges with PSP fee structures for micro-transactions

Been diving deeper into the economics of processing a high volume of micro-transactions, particularly across different regions and currencies. The percentage-based fees, even with a low flat component, really start to eat into margins when average transaction value drops below a certain threshold. It seems like the traditional PSP models are often geared towards larger ticket items or a lower volume.

Anyone else experiencing significant drag from these fee structures when dealing with very small payments? Are there any emerging models or less conventional PSPs that offer more favorable terms for high-volume, low-value transactions, especially when crossing borders? Looking for insights beyond just negotiating lower rates with existing providers, which often hits a floor.

This is something I've been wondering about too. Is there a point where the volume is high enough that even tiny percentage fees make it almost impossible to turn a profit on micro-transactions, or does it eventually balance out?
