KYC Automation for Scale - Any hidden traps?

We're looking at various AI/ML solutions to streamline our retail client KYC onboarding, aiming for faster processing and lower manual review rates. The promise of near-instant verification is alluring, especially given the current pace of growth. My concern isn't so much the initial tech adoption, but rather the long-term maintenance of the system's 'intelligence' as regulatory goalposts inevitably shift. Does anyone have experience with these platforms and how adaptable they truly are to, say, a new obscure AML red flag suddenly mandated by the FCA or a change in proof-of-address requirements for a specific APAC region? Are we just trading one set of manual headaches for another, albeit more technical, one down the line? It feels like we're always running to catch up with the compliance wave; just hoping not to get swamped by our own solutions.

One often-overlooked trap is how easily these systems can create a "black box" effect, making it difficult to understand why a particular decision was made during an audit or when a client disputes a rejection. How are you planning to address the explainability of the AI's decisions?
