KYC Automation for Scale vs. Red Flag Detection Efficacy
We're in the midst of overhauling our retail client onboarding flow and naturally, the conversation keeps circling back to automation. The push is strong for near-instantaneous verification to reduce drop-off rates, especially given how competitive the fintech space is getting. However, I'm trying to balance that efficiency with the absolute necessity of robust AML. Are others finding that the more highly automated KYC solutions, while great for scale, might be missing some of the more nuanced red flags that a more manual, albeit slower, review process might catch? Or have the AI/ML-driven tools really advanced to the point where they can outperform human review in identifying complex risk patterns?

The "near-instantaneous" part is where you'll run into issues. Full automation without any human oversight for red flags is a recipe for compliance breaches down the line. It's a trade-off, and you need to decide where your risk tolerance lies.
