USDJPY - Question on trailing stops around news events

Been watching $USDJPY for a while now, seeing some decent moves off the 150.00 area, but I keep getting tripped up around news. Specifically, when I have a trailing stop active and we get a surprise NFP or CPI print, it feels like my stop gets wiped out before the market can even figure out what it wants to do next, even if the general direction eventually goes my way. I understand the volatility, but I'm trying to figure out if others just widen their stops considerably into these events, or if there's a more nuanced approach than just hoping for the best, perhaps adjusting the trailing mechanism or pausing it altogether? Seems like I'm leaving good pips on the table just from the whipsaw.

This is something I've definitely noticed too. Do you find it's better to just close out before major news or move your stop a lot wider, even if that cuts into your risk/reward?
