ECB's Lagarde: The Eurozone's Inflation Tightrope Walk

Lagarde's recent hawkish tone on inflation, even with some signs of softening, means the ECB is clearly not out of the woods yet, and neither are we. They're trying to walk a tightrope, balancing inflation control with not choking off what little growth there is. This constant 'wait and see' game they're playing is making me very cautious on European equities right now. DAX and FTSE are just too vulnerable to further rate hikes if CPI comes in hot again. I'm keeping my watchlist to defensive plays and very selective value, avoiding anything reliant on easy credit or robust consumer spending for the time being. The $FFR jumping nearly 1.3% yesterday on relatively light volume just highlights the underlying rate sensitivity across the board. You see similar jitters in commodity futures too, like $ZS popping almost 4%, signaling broader supply concerns that the ECB can't just ignore.

Totally agree. It feels like they're in a tough spot where any move could backfire, which just adds to the general uncertainty. Are you mainly concerned about the immediate term or do you see this as a longer-term drag on EU equities?

I agree, that tightrope walk is making the equities market very skittish. Do you think the ECB has much room to maneuver if growth really starts to falter, or are they truly boxed in by inflation targets?
