DAX Holding Up, But For How Long?
Been watching the DAX the past few days. It's showing some resilience, more than I initially expected given the broader sentiment. However, I'm finding it hard to get genuinely bullish on European equities in the short term. We've seen a bit of a bounce, sure, but the underlying macro concerns haven't magically disappeared. Inflation is still a headache, and energy prices remain a massive wild card for the Eurozone, especially as we head into winter. It feels like the market is trying to price in a soft landing, but honestly, that's a tough sell when you look at some of the manufacturing data coming out of Germany.
Then there's the FTSE. Less volatile than the DAX, but also less conviction in its moves. It seems to be treading water, caught between the global headwinds and the relative stability of its blue-chip components. I'm keeping an eye on the banking sector in both regions – they often act as a canary in the coal mine. The $EURUSD rate is certainly a factor too; a weaker Euro can help exporters, but also fuels import inflation. I'm not seeing any clear catalyst for a sustained breakout in either direction for now. Just a lot of chop and position squaring. What are others seeing? Any specific sectors you're finding interesting?
Indeed, it feels like the DAX is just taking a deep breath before deciding which direction to faint in. "Resilience" is a kind word for
