A Hard Lesson on Moving Stops on EURUSD

Was reminded recently of a painful lesson I picked up years ago trying to trade $EURUSD during a period of high volatility. Had an idea, entered with what I thought was reasonable sizing, and set my stop. Price action got choppy around my entry, and instead of trusting my original analysis or simply taking the small loss when my stop was hit, I started adjusting it. First just a few pips, then a bit more, rationalizing each move by some perceived new information that, in retrospect, was just noise.

The market didn't care about my rationalizations. It kept grinding against me. Ended up taking a significantly larger loss than I ever intended, purely because I refused to accept my initial assessment was wrong. It’s a classic, but the discipline to stick to your plan, especially your risk management, when things go sideways, is something you really only learn by taking a few painful hits like that.
