Staking Rewards and Impermanent Loss in DeFi

I'm still trying to get my head around how impermanent loss truly impacts overall staking rewards on some of these new liquidity pools. Does anyone have a good framework for evaluating when the staking yield reliably outweighs potential impermanent loss on, say, an $ETH/$USDC pair over a longer horizon?
