Fed's rate hike chatter and its echo in DeFi yields
The persistent hawkish tone from the Fed, even with inflation cooling slightly, has me re-evaluating my exposure to some of the higher-yield, riskier DeFi plays. With the dollar strengthening and the cost of borrowing going up, the spread for real yield in some protocols starts looking less attractive when compared to the increased risk of smart contract exploits or protocol instability. I'm focusing my watchlist more on established blue-chip DeFi protocols that have weathered previous downturns, and perhaps even looking at some of the more conservative stablecoin lending options, even if the APYs aren't hitting those wild double-digit figures we saw in the past. The $EM cross is pretty steady around 1.195, suggesting some macro stability, but it's the domestic rate environment that's got my attention for DeFi right now.
Completely agree. The risk-adjusted returns in DeFi, especially with the current macro backdrop, demand a much closer look. Have you shifted any of your allocations to more established, lower-risk assets, even within crypto?
