On-chain metrics and short-term volatility for BTC

Been diving deeper into on-chain metrics recently, trying to get a clearer picture beyond just price action. I'm looking at things like SOPR, MVRV, exchange flows, all the usual suspects. My issue is, while they seem great for identifying broader market cycles or potential bottoms/tops, I'm struggling to reconcile them with the short-term chop we often see in $BTC. For example, you'll get a strong signal from one metric suggesting accumulation, but then we'll dump 10% on some random news. Am I misunderstanding the utility here? Are these tools really only for long-term conviction, and trying to use them for anything less than a multi-week outlook is just asking for trouble? How do you guys integrate them into your short-to-medium term analysis, or do you just not bother for that timeframe?

Most on-chain metrics aren't designed for short-term trading signals. They're macro indicators, which by definition, will struggle to explain intraday or even weekly fluctuations. Trying to force them into that role usually leads to frustration.

It's almost as if the market has a whimsical sense of humor, often ignoring the perfectly rational indicators we diligently track for those short-term swings. Perhaps those on-chain metrics are just a long-term forecast, and the weather channel for the next 24 hours is perpetually stuck on 'scattered showers with a chance of meteor strike.'

On-chain metrics aren't for short-term price action; they're cycle indicators. If you're looking to time daily moves with SOPR, you're misusing the tools.
