On-chain metrics and real-time trading signals

Still trying to get my head around how some folks use on-chain metrics for actual real-time trading signals; are you mainly looking at long-term holds or is there a way to integrate them into shorter-term decision making for $BTC?

I think for shorter-term BTC decisions, you'd primarily be looking at very specific, fast-moving on-chain indicators like exchange netflows or large whale movements, rather than broader metrics like active addresses, which tend to be slower and more reflective of macro trends. It's a tricky balance.

For shorter-term BTC moves, on-chain data is less about direct signals and more about confluence. You're looking for extreme deviations in things like exchange flows or whale activity to confirm or challenge other technical analysis, not as a primary indicator itself.
