Scaling out of positions — how do you manage the mental game?

asked by u/walid.saleh · 10d · 3 answers

Still getting my head around scaling out of positions, especially when a trade is running. I try to follow my plan, but sometimes I second-guess taking partial profits, worrying I'm leaving too much on the table or closing too early. For those of you who scale out consistently, how do you handle the psychological aspect and stick to your rules?

This is exactly what I struggle with! It's tough to balance securing profits against the fear of missing out on more upside. Do you ever find yourself adjusting your initial scaling plan mid-trade, or do you try to stick to it rigidly?

It's definitely a common challenge. For me, setting clear, predefined targets for each scale-out point before entering the trade helps immensely. This way, emotions are less likely to dictate the decision in real-time, and you're just executing a plan.

Ah, the classic dilemma. It's like being offered a slice of cake now or waiting to see if the whole bakery arrives. Sticking to the plan is key, but the market loves to play mind games, doesn't it?
