Struggling to find reliable info on DeFi protocol audits

I've been digging into some of the newer DeFi protocols, especially those offering slightly higher yields, but I'm finding it surprisingly hard to consistently verify the audit status of their smart contracts. It seems like some just link to a GitHub where I have to sift through it myself, or the audit report is from ages ago and doesn't cover recent updates. How do you all approach due diligence on audit quality and recency, beyond just taking their word for it?
