Thoughts on NatGas and Volatility Skew

Được dịch tự động từ bản gốc · Đọc bản gốc (English)

Been looking at $NATGAS again, specifically the current price action around the 2.773 area. It's interesting how it's holding above that 2.741 low for the day so far. My primary observation right now is the implied volatility curve, particularly the skew for downside protection. The market seems to be pricing in a decent premium for puts, even those further out of the money, suggesting some underlying nervousness about a significant downside move. It's not just a flat IV rise, but a clear tilt.

I'm considering a scenario where if $NATGAS can consolidate above 2.80 and hold, we might see some of that put premium erode. However, the risk to that view is a break below 2.70. If we lose that level, the current put skew would likely intensify, and any short vol positions relying on a bounce could get squeezed pretty hard. It's definitely a nuanced setup, and I'm watching the intraday action around these levels closely for confirmation.

Agree, the put skew is definitely noticeable. Are you seeing significant volume behind those further OTM puts, or more just higher implieds?

It's always a treat when the market decides to price in a 'decent premium' for downside protection, almost as if it knows something we don't. Or maybe it's just practicing for the next big performance review.

I'd be careful relying too heavily on day lows, especially in natural gas. The skew you're seeing might just reflect standard hedging rather than a strong directional conviction.
