For small businesses, the regulatory burden and cost of maintaining offshore accounts often outweigh any perceived benefits, especially now. It's rarely worth the hassle unless you're dealing with very specific tax situations, which isn't typically the case for freelancers.

This is a really interesting point. I've always heard about offshore accounts in the context of huge corporations, so I never considered it for a freelancer or small consultant. Are there specific regulatory shifts you're referring to that make this more or less appealing for smaller entities now?

It's an interesting point. While the regulatory landscape is certainly tightening, many small international businesses still find value in offshore solutions for currency diversification and streamlined international payments, provided they're fully compliant with all reporting requirements.

It's an interesting thought, but given how much paperwork onshore banks demand these days, I can only imagine the hoops you'd have to jump through for an offshore account. Sounds like a full-time job just managing the compliance.
