Question about adjusting Position Size

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I've been trading $EURUSD for a while now. I'm still confused about calculating position size. I understand the concept of risk per trade roughly, like 1% of the portfolio, but when I apply it in practice, sometimes my SL is very wide compared to the Entry Point. To maintain 1%, I have to use a very small Position size, to the point where it feels not worth the commission or spread. Or sometimes the SL is very narrow, making the Position size too large and scary. In summary, I still can't find a way to balance it. Does anyone have any advice on how to think about or adjust this appropriately?
