The siren song of 'just one more trade' on $TSLA
We've all been there, I imagine. It was late 2021, the market was absolutely humming, and $TSLA was doing its daily impression of a rocket ship with no off switch. I'd had a decent day, booked some solid profit on a couple of other names, and was feeling pretty chuffed. Then I saw TSLA break yet another intraday high. My original plan, the one I'd painstakingly laid out that morning, said 'done for the day, walk away.' But the greed gremlin whispered sweet nothings: 'Just one more scalp. It's so strong, can't lose.' I dipped in, then doubled down, then added again as it kept grinding up a few more points, my stops progressively wider and wider because, well, it had to keep going, right? Suddenly, a small, completely normal profit-taking dip became a not-so-small correction, and my paper profits evaporated faster than a politician's promises. The worst part? I hadn't even given myself a clear reason beyond 'it's going up.' Cost me a significant chunk of the day's earlier gains and a healthy dose of self-respect. Lesson learned: the best trade you can make is often no trade at all, especially when your gut tells you you're just chasing.
It's always the 'just one more' that seems to unravel everything. Chasing those extended runs often feels like picking up pennies in front of a steamroller.
