Does DCA in a volatile asset just average you into mediocrity?

I'm starting to think dollar-cost averaging in something like $INR at these whipsaw levels (today alone seeing 12.855–13.53) just dilutes any real edge. You're effectively smoothing out the highs and the lows, which sounds good on paper, but in a fundamentally strong asset with clear support, aren't you just foregoing opportunities to build a stronger position closer to the bottom? I'd rather time my entries with a bit more precision, even if it means missing a few moves. Convince me I'm wrong.
