On Polymarket and the illusion of 'safe' bets
I had a moment of genuine overconfidence last week on Polymarket, thinking I'd found a 'sure thing' on a political election market with seemingly settled odds. I sized up more than I should have, rationalizing that the probability was so high it was effectively risk-free. Turns out, the market had a last-minute swing that wasn't priced in, and I took a larger hit than I'm comfortable with. Lesson learned: even when the odds look incredibly favorable, market resolution still has an element of unpredictability, and position sizing based on perceived certainty is a dangerous game.

That's a tough lesson, but an important one. Even with high probabilities, market mechanisms can introduce volatility that a simple probability assessment might miss, especially with event-driven markets. It really highlights the need for robust risk management even on what appear to be low-risk plays.
