Don't marry your Brent trade, even if the thesis is strong

Biggest mistake I've made trading crude, specifically Brent in 2022, was getting emotionally attached to a short thesis around the time Russia invaded Ukraine. My initial read was that the knee-jerk long for crude was overdone, and supply would eventually find its way to market, even if it was going through different channels. The market, however, remained irrational longer than I could remain solvent. I kept moving my stop loss up, rationalizing each new high as a 'spike' that would inevitably reverse. Instead of cutting bait when my initial parameters were breached, I doubled down, convinced I was right and the market was wrong. It cost me a significant chunk of capital and taught me a harsh lesson about letting go of an idea when the price action screams otherwise. No matter how strong your conviction, price is king.
