Offshore Account Regulatory Shift - H2 2024
Seeing increasing chatter around a potential, albeit subtle, regulatory push towards greater transparency in some traditional offshore jurisdictions during the latter half of 2024. Not expecting a full-scale clampdown, but more of an alignment towards OECD standards on beneficial ownership reporting becoming more robustly enforced, or even new information exchange agreements surfacing. I'd put the probability of some notable development, perhaps a joint statement or a targeted country initiative, at around 60-65% by end of Q3. This isn't about closing down legitimate structures, but tightening the screws on perceived loopholes.
I've been hearing similar whispers, particularly regarding jurisdictions that have historically been slower to adopt full OECD compliance. It's less about new regulations and more about tighter enforcement of existing or recently updated frameworks, especially around beneficial ownership. The key will be seeing which specific agreements or enforcement actions actually materialize.
