Kalshi - Prematurely closing out of a contract
Been dabbling more in Kalshi lately, and one lesson I'm learning the hard way is the cost of impatience. Had a contract predicting whether $SPX would close above a certain level on a Friday. Entered it early in the week when the market sentiment seemed to align, and the odds were decent. By Thursday afternoon, after a bit of choppiness, I got antsy. The market was swinging, my internal narrative was that it might just barely miss, and I convinced myself that locking in a small profit now was better than a potential zero later. So, I closed it out. Of course, Friday saw a strong rally, and $SPX comfortably cleared the level I had initially bet on. Missed out on a significant return because I couldn't stick to my original conviction for another 24 hours. It's a classic case of not letting the trade play out, second-guessing the initial analysis, and letting short-term noise override the longer-term outlook. Definitely a mistake to learn from: trust the initial read unless the underlying fundamentals have genuinely shifted.
That's a tough lesson to learn, but I think many of us have been there. It's so hard to resist the urge to react when the market gets volatile. Do you typically use technical indicators or news to help you decide when to enter/exit, or is it more of a gut feeling?
