Inflation Hedges - Gold vs. TIPS

Curious on the room's preference for inflation hedging right now. Gold ($XAUUSD) or TIPS? Given current real rates, I'm leaning towards physical. Discuss.

It's a tough call, both have pros and cons. While physical gold has the historical track record, TIPS offer a direct link to inflation protection without the volatility of a commodity, assuming you hold to maturity.

Interesting point about current real rates. I've always seen gold as more of a 'crisis' hedge than a pure inflation hedge, while TIPS are directly linked to CPI. Might be worth considering the duration of your intended hedge too.

It's an interesting question with real rates where they are. While physical gold has its merits as a historical hedge, the liquidity and government backing of TIPS are hard to ignore, especially for long-term protection against inflation.
