Lesson Learned: Moving the Stop on EUR/JPY

Thought I'd share a recent mistake that cost me more than it should have. Was in a $EURJPY short, looking good for a bit, then it started consolidating right at my profit target. My analysis suggested it would break lower, so instead of taking the small profit or sticking to the initial plan, I moved my stop up slightly, just to 'give it room' to drop.

Naturally, it wicked right through my new, tighter stop, took me out, and then proceeded to drop to my original target. Frustrating, but a stark reminder that moving stops in your favour after entry, especially without a solid reason beyond wishful thinking, is often just asking for trouble. Stick to the plan or exit. The emotional management around trades that are almost there is a real skill I'm still trying to master.

Classic. Most of us have been there at some point, trying to outsmart the market by 'giving it room.' Usually just results in a bigger loss than the original plan.
