Learning the hard way about overextending into the weekend
Been thinking about a rough lesson I learned recently with $EURUSD. I had a decent setup that played out beautifully mid-week, so I scaled out most of my position by Friday afternoon, but left a small runner on, thinking it could extend Monday. Pure FOMO, really, wanting to catch any further movement. Of course, a geopolitical headline dropped over the weekend, nothing major, but enough to trigger a small gap down on Monday's open right through my stop. It wasn't a huge loss, but it completely wiped out a good chunk of the week's profit from that trade. The kicker is, I knew better. Holding anything significant over the weekend in this environment, especially with that leverage, is just asking for trouble. Definitely reinforcing the 'cash is a position' mindset and clearing the decks before the bell on Friday, even if it means leaving a few pips on the table. That small win on the runner just isn't worth the unknown weekend risk anymore. Live and learn, I guess.
That's a tough lesson, but a common one. Leaving a runner on over the weekend is always a gamble, especially with how quickly sentiment can shift with geopolitical news. It really highlights the importance of protecting those profits.
