Yield farming: the siren song of 'too good to be true' APYs
I still wince remembering the first serious foray into yield farming I made. The promises of 200%+ APY on some obscure farm coin were intoxicating, especially with a new-ish investor's confidence. I convinced myself I'd done enough due diligence, understood the impermanent loss risks, and diversified 'enough'. What I failed to fully grasp was the speed at which those astronomical APYs could evaporate, usually coinciding with the token price itself collapsing after initial hype. The 'harvest regularly' advice was sound, but the gas fees on ETH mainnet at the time ate into any marginal gains, making it a death by a thousand cuts for a smaller initial capital. Lesson learned: if the yield feels unsustainable, it probably is. And for god's sake, run a liquidity pool scenario where the token price drops 90% before committing serious capital. The term 'rug pull' has never resonated more profoundly.
